CBS is trying to keep up with trends in participatory media with its iPhone application geared towards citizen journalists, but some of the user generated news has turned out to be porn -- among other ridiculous offerings (see image to the right), reports AdAge. Karl Johnson, chief operating officer of BrandContent, a Boston-based ad agency, tells AdAge that he found multiple images and videos of scantily clad women, some performing sexual acts. We didn’t see any ourselves after a quick scan

Our chart has been updated with the data for the 2007-2008 season. Among English broadcast networks only Fox recorded an increase and the trend for the rest continued downward, helped by, but not exclusively caused by, the WGA writer’s strike last season. I anticipate further overall losses by the broadcast prime-time networks this season. And in the first week of the season we just learned that while the English broadcast networks were down 3% year to year, ad supported cable was up 13%.

In the past we’ve been hard on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, perhaps as hard as any other mainstream media outlet. We have had public run-ins on these pages with such senior corporate executives as former CBC News editor-in-chief Tony Burman over the Ceeb’s obvious left-of-centre bias in news coverage.
